Mark Halliday - biography

Educated at Birmingham School of Art and the Royal College of Art, Mark Halliday has post graduate qualifications in both painting and sculpture.  Mark has lived and worked in Wales since 2002.

In 2009 Mark jointly set up the ‘New British Art’ collective. This was a grass roots, intergenerational artists’ group designed to enable the production of ambitious artworks through collaborative activity.  The group was notably successful in being shortlisted to the final three to represent Wales at the 2011 Venice Biennale.

He is currently Director of an experimental and teaching foundry in rural Carmarthenshire, allied to New British Art. The project is part of an ongoing plan to establish a facility for the making of sculpture in this part of South West Wales that is modelled along the lines of the Scottish Sculpture Workshop but will be a ‘Workshop for Wales’.

Mark is an experienced teacher and was for nine years a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Cardiff School of Art & Design, Lecturer at Central Saint Martins School of Art & Design and has been a lecturer and Visiting Lecturer at a variety of adult education, FE and HE institutions since 1990.
